Patricia Shiu honored with 2002 Abby J. Leibman Pursuit of Justice Award and 2002 Woman Warrior Award

We are delighted to announce that Patricia Shiu, LAS-ELC Vice President for Programs for and Director of the Gender Equity Program, has been doubly honored this year: the California Women's Law Center has given Patricia its 2002 Abby J. Leibman Pursuit of Justice Award and the Pacific Asian American Women Bay Area Coalition (PAAWBAC) has chosen her for its 2002 Woman Warrior Award. CWLC recognizes her unparalleled dedication and concern for the human and civil rights of women and girls in California, and PAAWBAC, citing Patricia as "one of the country's feistiest and most relentless" Asian American litigators, praises her for advancing the status of Asian and Pacific Islander women. It is fitting that Patricia will receive these awards after 20 years of exemplary work in support of working women.

Patricia came to the Legal Aid Society - Employment Law Center in 1983, and has been a powerful defender of employment rights and a zealous advocate for fairness in the workplace. In her time here, Patricia has focused primarily on sex- and race-based discrimination, and has represented workers in family and medical leave cases. Those of us who have had the pleasure of working closely with Pat know her to be a wonderful person and top-notch lawyer. We congratulate her on these richly deserved awards.
